TEREA Black Menthol

Description

TEREA Black Menthol is the coldest stick in the Japanese TEREA range. There is no fruit, no sweetness and no citrus layered over it, only a sharp menthol hit sitting on a full tobacco base. Philip Morris International makes it for the IQOS ILUMA and ILUMA i series, and it ships in a 200 stick carton. If you moved to heated tobacco from strong menthol cigarettes and found most sticks too mild, this is the one that usually solves that.

How strong is it, really

The cooling starts on the first draw and does not fade by the last one. What separates Black Menthol from the standard TEREA Menthol is not the aroma but the physical sensation. Standard menthol smells fresh. This one produces an actual cold feeling in the throat and chest, closer to what heavy menthol cigarette smokers are used to.

The tobacco underneath is not thin either. You get body and a bit of dryness at the end of the stick, which is normal for the Black series because the tobacco plug is packed more densely than in the lighter variants.

Black on a TEREA pack does not mean dark tobacco. It marks the high cooling line in the Japanese range. Every Black variant carries the same heavy menthol load, and the colour word after Black tells you which flavour has been added on top of it. Black Menthol is the one with nothing added.

If the pure version turns out to be too much, TEREA Black Yellow Menthol is the closest step down and adds a citrus edge. TEREA Black Purple Menthol keeps the cooling but softens it with berry notes, and TEREA Black Green from Indonesia is the mint reading of the same idea.

Is there a HEETS Black Menthol?

No. A lot of people search for HEETS Black Menthol, but the Black edition only exists as TEREA. HEETS sticks are made for the older blade devices and use a completely different heating method, so no Black variant was ever produced for them. Which devices it works with

TEREA sticks carry a metal element inside the stick. The device heats that element by induction, so nothing is inserted into the tobacco and no residue builds up on a blade. The full mechanism is explained in our guide to how SMARTCORE induction works.

The ILUMA i series handles this stick slightly better than the older models. Menthol oils are heavy and need steady heat to vaporise properly, and the newer induction holds temperature more evenly. FlexPuff also helps with the dryness some users notice on the last two or three puffs.

If you pause mid stick

Pausing a Black Menthol stick and coming back to it changes the taste. The menthol oils settle while the device is idle, so the first puff after you resume usually feels noticeably colder than the one before the pause. Some people do this deliberately. If you would rather avoid it, finish the stick in one session.

How to use it

1. Charge your ILUMA device fully. A low battery will not hold heating temperature and this is the flavour profile where you notice that first.
2. Take one stick out of the pack and slide it straight into the device with the filter facing out. Do not twist it.
3. Close the cap and wait for the vibration or light signal.
4. Draw slowly. Fast, hard puffs make the cooling feel harsh without adding flavour.
5. Stop at roughly 14 puffs or when the device signals the end of the session.
6. Pull the used stick out and dispose of it. There is no ash and no cleaning cycle needed between sticks.

Storing it in UAE heat

This matters more for Black Menthol than for the milder sticks, because the menthol content is what degrades first. Moving packs between a cold office and a 45 degree car makes the menthol oils separate, and once that happens the stick will feel cold but produce very little vapour.

Signs a pack has been heat damaged:

• Almost no menthol smell when you open the foil
• A faintly metallic taste on the first puff
• Thin vapour even though the device is fully charged

Two things people get wrong about it

The first is nicotine. Stronger cooling does not mean a stronger nicotine dose. Every TEREA stick, Black or not, contains 0.5 mg per stick. The intensity you feel is the menthol working on the throat, not extra nicotine. Actual figures are in our page on nicotine content in HEETS and TEREA.

The second is harshness. New users often describe Black Menthol as burning. Nothing is burning at all, since the tobacco never reaches combustion temperature. Very intense cooling registers on the throat in a way that feels similar to harshness, which is why slow draws make such a difference with this variant.

Why the Japan version

Japan has the widest TEREA lineup of any market, and Japanese menthol blends use a higher concentration of cooling oils than the Kazakh or Indonesian equivalents. That difference is the whole reason the Black series exists there and not elsewhere. Print quality on the carton is the fastest tell. Original Japanese packs have sharp, evenly aligned printing and a clean foil seal, and every stick in the pack looks identical in length and density. Is TEREA Black Menthol the strongest menthol stick?

Within the TEREA range, yes. Nothing else in the lineup delivers cooling at that level without adding a fruit or citrus note on top.

Does Black Menthol contain more nicotine than other TEREA sticks?

No. It is 0.5 mg per stick, the same as every other TEREA variant. Only the menthol load is higher.

Is there a HEETS version of Black Menthol?

No. The Black edition was made only as TEREA, for ILUMA devices. HEETS sticks for older blade devices have no Black variant.

How is Black Menthol different from Black Yellow Menthol?

Black Yellow adds a lemon and lime citrus layer and cools slightly less. Black Menthol has nothing added and is the colder of the two.

Can I use it in IQOS ILUMA One?

Yes, and in every other ILUMA and ILUMA i model. It will not work in blade devices such as IQOS 3 DUO or IQOS Originals.

How many sticks come in a carton?

200 sticks, split into 10 packs of 20. The carton measures 162 x 75 x 47 mm and weighs 240 g.

How many puffs does one stick give?

Around 14 puffs, or about six minutes, whichever comes first. The device ends the session automatically.

Why does my stick taste weak?

Usually heat damage or a low battery. Menthol oils separate when packs are left in hot cars, and a device below charge will not reach the temperature needed to vaporise them properly. Check the ILUMA battery guide if the pack itself is fresh.

Is this the original Japanese version?

Yes. Cartons are factory sealed and arrive with Japanese market packaging intact.
